The Caravan Wayfarer pant from Ex Officio is a rugged, yet lightweight, pant that’s as at-home in the office as it is on the trail. Made of an ultra-comfortable canvas, the wayfarer material is 51% cotton and 49% nylon. This offers the comfort and breatheability of a natural fabric, with the performance of a synthetic. The addition of the nylon also helps the canvas to resist wrinkles, which makes them a breeze to pack – and you know they’ll come out of your suitcase looking the same as they did when they went in. When traveling, if I’m not wearing my Wayfarers, I roll them up in an Eagle Creek Pack It Cube and they come out looking great! They also have a Teflon coating which helps repel stains and water. So, even if you’re caught in a sudden downpour, these pants will dry quickly – another bonus when you’re on the road and away from your closet.
The Caravan Wayfarer pant has plenty of organization built in, too. A side leg pocket with security zipper keeps essentials close at hand and secure, and a stacked cell phone pocket allows easy access for important calls (does not fit larger smart phones or iphones). Two rear zippered pockets also help thwart amateur pickpockets so you can stroll the streets of Paris, Rome or New York in wrinkle-free comfort and confidence.
These pants have a comfortable, roomy fit and work great in colder climates when you simply add a lightweight under-layer, like the Thermasilk Long Underwear Bottoms. Wayfarers are also extremely easy to care for. Like most people, I’m not a big fan of doing laundry, so after a week in my dirty clothes basket I’ll throw them in a cold wash with all my other stuff, then fifteen to twenty minutes in the dryer on low heat and they’re ready to go. After over a year of use, both pairs of Caravan Wayfarer pants that I own still look as good as new.
